rowan wood news - October 2025
The children have settled into our new school fantastically and have built lovely relationships with their peers and staff. Morning circle, soft play and sensory circuit are greatly enjoyed and help settle them in for a wonderful day! They have enjoyed getting to know everyone around the school and love playing outside on the playground equipment.
In DT the children have explored photo frames and different materials and started to design and make their own photo frames. In PE, the children have been enjoying weekly swimming sessions, alongside gymnastics and yoga lessons. The swimming lessons at Crook Log are a firm favourite and everyone really looks forward to their weekly swim. In Learning Technologies, we have learnt how to access different apps on the iPad, and record and save voice memos. We have also learnt to log into the chrome books and create a list in MS Word. The children have worked hard in their maths lessons, focusing on place value before moving on to addition and subtraction. In English we have enjoyed a range of books. The children have worked hard and produced artwork relating to the stories, they also sequenced events in the stories and produced some wonderful writing. In Science, children have explored combining two materials to make a mixture. The children enjoyed learning about whether mixtures can be separated and what tools to use to do this. Finally, the children have been enjoying learning about soldiers' life in the trenches, evacuation and rationing.
