Governance
Each Compass school has a local school committee composed of a group of volunteers drawn from the community, each bringing a range of skills, expertise and professional experience. Our Governors provide essential links between the school, parents/carers and the local community. Governors work with staff and parents in an atmosphere of co-operation to provide the best possible framework for educating our children. They are involved in all aspects of school life and meet regularly with leadership teams.
Governors fulfil their responsibilities by:
-
Supporting the school and its ambition by working strategically to develop and implement vision and ethos;
-
Ensuring that the children are receiving the best education and achieve the best outcomes by monitoring the quality of teaching and standards across the school;
-
Making sure the school uses its financial resources effectively and in line with the budget plan;
-
Accounting to all stakeholders for the school’s performance and for the decisions they make.
If you are interested in becoming a Governor at our school or would like to hear more about what the role involves, please email contact@compassps.uk

Link Governors
Link governors should focus on a specific aspect of school life and report back to the Local School Committee on it. Their job is to raise the profile of the issue, monitor it, and provide support and challenge to key school staff.
At Willow Dene and Rowan Wood all members of the Local School committee have specific areas that they link with –
| Curriculum | Jack Reynolds |
| EYFS | Yan Zhong |
| Health and Safety | Bob Janes |
| Policies | Sharifo Sheikh |
| Pupil Premium, Sports Premium and Free School Meals | Kafayet Eletu and Nicole Allwood |
| Safeguarding, CLA, Prevent and attendance, SEND, Governor training and development | Lynne Wainwright |
| Sixth Form | Dennis Mitakos |
| Wellbeing | Lucy Atkinson |
Safeguarding and Health and safety are monitored on a termly basis with a report to the next committee meeting.
Link governors for other areas will liaise with the staff lead to make prearranged visits to school with a clear focus. These visits will then be reported back to the LSC and aspects discussed as necessary with senior leaders.
All governors are involved in termly monitoring mornings linked to the schools’ core priorities at which we receive information regarding the priority as well as undertake visits to areas of the school to see how things are being implemented and the impact of these on children and young people and staff.
